Ikea says it has received 3,730 applications in just six days for its new store on London’s Oxford Street, due to open this spring.

The Swedish furniture giant said the high level of interest in the 150 available positions marks the biggest-ever response it has seen in the UK, breaking all previous recruitment records.

Successful applicants will be offered multi-skilled roles working across various departments. The London store is expected to be Ikea’s most innovative location to date, combining traditional retail expertise with new digital solutions and sustainable practices.



Ikea London city market manager Matt Gould said: “This extraordinary response demonstrates the incredible appeal of joining the IKEA co-worker family. We’re delighted to see such enthusiasm for our most innovative store yet, and we look forward to building a diverse team that will help shape the future of urban retail in London.”

The furniture specialist said the new central London store will aim create a unique shopping experience tailored to the needs of Londoners, with 6,000 Ikea products and dedicated spaces for expert advice and inspiration.

As a city store, it will house a showroom, market hall filled with home furnishing accessories, and a Swedish deli. Shoppers will also be offered free planning services for kitchens, wardrobes and bathrooms.
