Hyundai Announces Next-Gen Infotainment Software Called Pleos

Despite offering one of the most user-friendly infotainment systems on the market today, Hyundai plans to revamp its technology interfaces in next-generation vehicles. The automaker recently announced its new Pleos software, which will form the basis of future infotainment interfaces and vehicle operating systems.

Based on the Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS), the infotainment portion of the setup is called Pleos Connect. It will function similarly to a smartphone but will take advantage of larger vehicle touchscreens with split-screen options and other functions. Hyundai said the system will also offer apps, including Google-based software like Maps, Play Store, and Assistant.

The new Pleos system is part of Hyundai’s effort to shift to software-defined vehicles, which places a much heavier emphasis on the tech side of the experience and will allow the automaker to refresh and change vehicle functions via over-the-air updates. Fleet managers will also gain access to more advanced telematics software, including vehicle tracking, without additional hardware.

Hyundai plans to roll out the new interface by the end of 2026. In the meantime, the automaker has created a Pleos Playground program that gives third-party developers deep access to the software to create apps. Hyundai has opened access to cloud functions, vehicle analytics, and other functions, giving developers a head start to build out a robust ecosystem before the Pleos release.
