Highest safety standards are needed

ALEM (Association of Loading and Elevating Equipment Manufacturers) is celebrating a successful partnership with DHF (Door & Hardware Federation) in launching a Level 2 Award in Dock Leveller Safety. This initiative highlights the urgent need to update EN1398, the standard for dock levellers, to align with current safety requirements. ALEM has long represented UK manufacturers of loading bay equipment, such as dock levellers, scissor lifts and vehicle restraints.

Hörmann Transdek have recently completed the installation of a customised double deck lift for Jersey Post, enabling them to expand their fleet and seamlessly integrate fixed double deck trailers into their distribution network. Working closely with Jersey Post, Hörmann Transdek developed plans for a modular double deck lift to create an additional bay for their growing parcels business. The completed solution consists of a surface-mounted, modular double deck lift with adjoining rear enclosed lobby, which connects to the side of the existing warehouse unit.

BID Group offers a comprehensive range of products, including dock levellers, dock shelters, dock buffers, and wheel guides, designed to enhance safety and functionality. These solutions provide robust protection, improve workflow, and help prevent accidents, ensuring your loading dock is not just a functional space but a safe one too. BID Group’s dock levellers are manufactured to meet the highest safety and performance standards.

More efficiently loading and unloading goods from trailers can lead to much faster, safer, and more reliable transportation between sites, which requires fewer people and less space. However, the right solution will not be one size and it won’t fit all. By integrating automated systems, businesses can alleviate the strain of labour and space shortages, reduce operational costs in the long run, and improve overall productivity, says Wouter Satijn, Sales Director, Joloda Hydraroll.

In their fifth successful collaboration with a leading UK supermarket, Thorworld Industries and trusted sales agent DARMAX have completed a bespoke modular dock installation, this time tailored for a challenging site in Romford. The new system is an internal ramp solution, offering a streamlined and cost-effective alternative to the supermarket’s previous scissor lift that had caused frequent operational disruption. This installation builds on the success of several earlier modular dock systems created by Thorworld for the same retailer, helping to ensure efficient loading and unloading across its network.

As the loading bay becomes ever busier, the industry has a responsibility to ensure the highest standards of safety are maintained.
