French AI Startup Spore.Bio Secures US$23m to Detect Bacteria in Cosmetics and Beyond

THE WHAT?  Spore.Bio, launched in 2023, has raised a Series A funding of US$23m to develop its AI-driven technology for rapid bacterial detection in cosmetics, food, and pharmaceutical products. This round was led by Singular, with participation from Point72 Ventures, LocalGlobe, and other notable investors.

THE DETAILS

• Spore.Bio’s on-site machines use AI to deliver test results in about 10 minutes, eliminating the need for lengthy external lab checks.
• Current clients include “very large industrial companies,” with commercial contracts reportedly in place for up to 200 factories worldwide.
• After securing US$8.3m in seed funding last year, this latest investment brings Spore.Bio’s total to US$31.3m.
• The startup plans to double its workforce to 50 employees in 2025 and is considering opening a US office in the near term.
