FatFace boosts B Corp score under sustainability push

FatFace has improved its B Corp score by eight points, boosting the brand’s commitment to sustainability.

The fashion retailer said its grew its B Corp score from 80.4 to 89.1, following a successful recertification process.

The announcement followed FatFace hosting a panel to mark B Corp month, with sustainability consultant Bianca Foley, B Lab UK head of comms Hannah Reiss, B Corp Beeble co-founder Nicola Arkell-Reed, and FatFace trading director Nick Stevenson.

The discussion focused on FatFace and Beeble’s journeys to qualifying as B Corps, the importance of being part of the B Corp community, as well as the changing B Corp standards.

The retailer is also launching a new internal B Corp committee – Gen B’s – to meet these criteria, which is set to play a vital role in forming its next environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy.

FatFace trading director Nick Stevenson said: “We are so pleased to have improved our score across the board, with sourcing raw materials gaining the most points.

“Being a B Corp means constantly evolving and improving. With new standards coming into effect, our first step is understanding the changes and mapping out how we’ll meet them when we recertify in 2027, and our new Gen B working group will play a crucial role in this.”

FatFace has been a B Corp-certified company since April 2023, and was recertified in 2024, after its acquisition by Next in October 2023.

The fashion retailer joins Nobody’s Child in boosting its sustainability efforts, with the womenswear brand teaming up with pre-loved fashion firm Reskinned to launch a takeback scheme in January.

The initiative is designed to give clothes “another shot at life” after shoppers are finished with them and is “accepting pieces in any condition”.

Back in January, M&S rolled out lower emission vehicles as part of its net zero push.
