[Comment] Atosiban and managing women in preterm labour

Worldwide, approximately one in ten babies are born preterm each year, accounting for nearly 1 million newborn deaths.1 The majority of preterm births follow spontaneous preterm labour (40–45% of all preterm births) or preterm pre-labour rupture of membranes (25–30%).2 When preterm labour is idiopathic, using a tocolytic to postpone birth seems intuitive; more time would assumedly mean greater fetal maturation and better newborn outcomes. It also widens the window for corticosteroids to do their work, and provides time for the woman to reach a higher level of care.
