Building a sustainable future

The Cold Chain Federation’s Technical and Safety Expert Group convened at StoreLogs for their latest meeting, tackling many critical topics, demonstrating the breadth and depth of expertise within the cold chain sector. No stone was left unturned, from the practicalities of cold store floor repairs and navigating complex recycling regulations to the crucial safety considerations surrounding ammonia refrigeration installations. The meeting also offered a glimpse into the future, with the CCF sharing its plans to conduct a census of workforce demographics within the cold chain, with special guest, Kirsten Tisdale, FCILT, contributing to the critical discussion.

Working in collaboration with ISD Solutions, a leading contractor specialising in the development, construction, and maintenance of cold stores, BID Group were commissioned by their client, Magnavale, to install 20 Klimate K2 High-Speed Freezer Doors in the new Magnavale Easton cold store development. With the finish line for the giant freezer warehouse development in Lincolnshire in sight, the row of Klimate K2 High-Speed Freezer Doors are fully installed and ready for commission. Each door, fitted in the facilities’ loading dock pods, features a bespoke dehumidification system, to ensure the freezer door and its surroundings remain ice and condensation free.

Every year, a staggering one-third of all food produced is lost or wasted. Yale Lift Truck Technologies understands the cold chain’s critical role in minimising this waste. A comprehensive suite of Yale products and services is available, designed to optimise materials handling in cold storage operations and extend the shelf life of perishable goods.

With the price of land getting more and more expensive by the minute, making the most of your existing warehousing facilities is crucial and is also the most cost-effective solution when companies are considering expanding their business. Optimising your warehouse space is even more critical when it comes to cold storage. In addition to the extremely high costs of constructing a new facility, refrigerating a larger area results in further energy expenses, says Combilift.

NewCold’s facility in Burley, Idaho, has set a new precedent for sustainability, passing an unscheduled BRCGS audit with the highest possible rating of AA+. The BRCGS Global Standards audits assess food manufacturers’ adherence to internationally recognised food safety standards. The grading system reflects food hygiene practices throughout the supply chain, and this AA+ rating highlights the exceptional standards upheld at the Burley facility.

We hope the cold chain can build a sustainable future and minimise waste.
