Durite’s self-installation support has helped Bartrums Haulage & Storage with cost-effective DVS compliance.
TfL’s Direct Vision Standard (DVS) implemented Phase 2 in October, as part of the Mayor of London’s Vision Zero initiative to prevent deaths and serious injuries on London’s roads. Phase 2 requires all HGVs over 12t GVW to install a new Progressive Safe System (PSS) combining sensors and cameras. PSS builds on the existing direct vision capabilities by providing truck drivers with indirect vision and eliminating blind spots. Bartrums wanted a flexible PSS installation to avoid unnecessary down time on its busy fleet of over 120 tractor units and 250 trailers. It turned to Durite for a solution.
Durite PSS is a comprehensive package that uses AI technology and comes with a two-year warranty. It features a camera monitoring system to eliminate the nearside blind spot, nearside BSIS with active sensors, and active MOIS. It also includes a left turn speaker and blind spot warning sign. The Progressive Safe System has been tested by Loughborough University, so fleet managers can choose Durite with the complete confidence that their PSS complies with TfL’s specifications.
“Durite had provided us with a great solution for DVS Phase 1, so they were our natural choice for Phase 2,” said Tremayne Johnson, Operations Director at Bartrums Haulage & Storage. “Phase 2 and PSS are tricky to navigate but Durite provided us with all the support and guidance we needed.”
Based in Suffolk, Bartrums operates trucks and trailers from multiple depots, with more than 70 tractors deployed in general haulage, over 30 in bulk haulage, and a mixed fleet of more than 50 vehicles on network operations. It also has a broad range of trailers including curtainsiders, bulk tippers, and double-deckers.
“Operational efficiency is key to our success,” added Tremayne. “We wanted a PSS solution that we could install ourselves, to give us maximum flexibility and avoid unnecessary vehicle off road time.
Durite gave us great support, enabling us to install the kits quickly, safely, and at times that matched our busy fleet schedule.”
Durite’s vehicle camera systems are proven to enhance fleet safety and compliance control. Reduced risk of collisions can also mean lower insurance and repair costs, plus improved vehicle uptime.
“Durite provides an excellent service from start to finish,” commented Tremayne. “Along with meeting DVS compliance, its systems are helping us to further enhance safety. They also protect both our drivers and the company, providing footage to quickly resolve disputes or claims.”
Durite has been supplying vehicle cameras for more than 20 years and has sold more than 50,000 systems to fleets. The company also provides a comprehensive range of vehicle safety products, making it a one-stop shop for fleet operators. In total it offers more than 5,000 quality parts to customers. The post Bartrums saves time and money on DVS compliance first appeared on Warehouse & Logistics News.
