Asda invests £10m to revamp over 180 in-store cafés

Asda is set to invest £10m into upgrading more than 180 of its in-store cafés as part of a major refresh project.

The revamp, which will be delivered by the supermarket’s café partner Compass Group, aims to give the spaces a more relaxed “coffee shop vibe”.

Upgrades will include new interiors, the introduction of digital ordering screens and a table service offering, which will sit alongside traditional manned tills.

The retailer is also launching a refreshed menu that brings back customer favourites like full English breakfasts, fish and chips, lasagne, jacket potatoes and burgers.

New additions include smashed avocado on toast, katsu chicken curry, topped salad bowls, wraps, nachos, loaded fries and Asda’s pizzas – available as full 12” pizzas or individual slices.

The project is due to begin this month, with completion expected by the end of October.

Asda vice president of commercial food Ian McEvans said: “Cafés are an important part of the shopping experience for many of our customers, and this significant investment alongside allows us to bring a new look and feel, as well making improvements to the service and a refresh of the menu.

“We have continued to demonstrate our commitment to our cafés over the years with popular deals like the Winter Warmer and Kids Eat for £1 meal deals, and this investment marks another exciting milestone moment for us on our journey and underpins our continued commitment to ensuring Asda is set up for long term success at the heart of communities.”
