Are The U.S. News Law School Rankings ‘So Arbitrary’ That They’ve Become Meaningless?

[T]hey are so arbitrary as to have no meaning to me anymore. [Harvard Law School] at six? Columbia and NYU at eight? I don’t know what analysis can really be done at this point other than to comment that, as usual, these are wholly made up by U.S. News. They set the methodology so they choose what to prioritize, and they are consistently suspicious at the top while changing wildly for lower-ranked schools.

Dave Killoran, CEO of Powerscore Test Preparation, in comments given to Law.com, on the recently released U.S. News law school rankings. In the latest version of the rankings, 17 law schools are ranked within the Top 14, with Cornell being dropped and four schools — Georgetown, UT-Austin, Vanderbilt, and Washington University in St. Louis — now tied at No. 14.
