Almost 71,000 GMC Sierras Recalled for Issue Causing Part of the Grille To Detach

Your car’s grille is generally a part you’d like to hold on to while driving, but some GMC pickup trucks apparently didn’t get that message. A recent recall from the automaker covers almost 71,000 GMC Sierras from the 2022 model year for an issue that could cause part of the grille to detach while the truck is moving.

The grille deflector, which sits at the top of the grille surround, can detach and fly off, creating a safety issue. While there are eight anchoring points for the deflector, all of them are susceptible to damage and breaking, which can leave the deflector dangling in the wind. Thankfully, only trucks equipped with a chrome grille are affected, which totals 70,768 vehicles.

General Motors said it had received 1,225 field complaints from vehicle owners, with four alleging that an accident happened as a result. Before the recall, complaints had been popping up on online forums like Reddit, where several owners registered complaints about their trucks’ grilles.

The automaker will fix the problem for free, but it is currently developing the remedy, and no repair procedure is in place. Owners will be notified about the problem and potential fix by March 24. In the meantime, GMC dealers have been given a stop-sale order for the truck, which covers both new and used vehicles on their lots.
