Aldi is creating 1,000 new store roles across the UK as the discounter pushes ahead with its store opening programme for the rest of the year.

The UK’s fourth-largest grocer, which already operates more than 1,050 stores and employs over 45,000 people, is hiring for positions ranging from store assistants and cleaners to store apprentices and management roles.

The recruitment drive supports Aldi’s ongoing expansion plans, with new stores set to open in locations including Fulham Broadway in London and Caterham in Surrey.

Store assistants at the retailer earn a starting hourly rate of £12.75 nationally, rising to £13.66 with service. In London, the starting rate is £14.05 an hour, increasing to £14.35.

The German discounter remains the only supermarket in the UK to offer paid breaks, which it says are worth over £1,370 a year to the average store worker.

Aldi UK recruitment director Kelly Stokes said: “As we expand into new communities, we’re excited to bring even more people into the Aldi family.

“We’re proud to offer not only the best pay and benefits, but also a positive working environment and real opportunities for progression.”
