THE WHAT? Walmart has expanded its drone delivery service to five states — Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Texas — enabling customers in select cities to receive items, including personal care products, in under 30 minutes.
THE DETAILS The service is now active in Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa. Since its launch in 2021, Walmart has completed over 150,000 drone deliveries. The company is using drones to deliver a range of items, including health and wellness products such as over-the-counter medicine, baby formula, and COVID-19 test kits.
Frequently delivered items include essentials like eggs, pet food, fresh produce, and personal care items. The rollout continues Walmart’s investment in alternative delivery methods, particularly in urban and suburban areas where it already operates high-volume stores.
Drone operations in Texas are powered by Zipline’s P2 drones, which launched earlier this year in Mesquite and Waxahachie.
THE WHY? Walmart’s expansion of drone delivery reflects the growing demand for rapid access to everyday consumer goods, including personal care and wellness products. For suppliers in the health and beauty sector, this may influence fulfillment expectations and product availability in last-mile logistics. The move also adds competitive pressure on other mass retailers to shorten delivery windows.
