Tesco resolves website glitch affecting online shoppers

Tesco has resolved a website glitch that caused disruptions for hundreds of customers attempting to place online grocery orders.

Shoppers took to social media yesterday (19 February) to express frustration as they encountered issues with completing their online orders, with basic grocery items such as bread and milk marked as unavailable.

According to The Guardian, the problems began around 9:30 AM, with Downdetector.com reporting over 200 faults logged by 2:00 PM. Outages affected customers from locations across the UK, including Surrey and Scotland, who experienced issues on both the Tesco app and website.

Some customers reported up to 20 items being marked as out of stock during checkout, adding to the frustration.

One user shared that they contacted the grocery giant‘s customer service at 11:30 AM, and were informed that the supermarket was aware of the issue and actively working on a solution.

By 5:00 PM, Tesco confirmed that the problem had been resolved. A spokesperson for the supermarket told The Guardian: “We have fixed an issue that prevented some customers adding items to their online shopping baskets earlier today.”

Aside from its IT issues, this week the retailer launched a new high-tech security hub as part of a multi-million pound investment to fight retail crime and keep its workers safe.

The security team, based in a centre in Daventry, Northamptonshire, will hunt criminals targeting the retailer’s stores following rising fears over shoplifting and violence against staff.
