Subaru Trailseeker unveiled as 375bhp 4WD estate
EV counterpart to Outback brings 4WD and more than 260 miles of range The Subaru Trailseeker has been revealed as an electric counterpart to the Outback estate that prioritises off-road capabilities. Subaru's first bespoke electric car, it gets four-wheel drive and the same 8.3in (211mm) of ground clearance as the Solterra SUV. It packs two motors (one per axle) that combine to put out 375bhp, enabling a 0-60mph sprint time of 4.4sec. Its 74.kWh lithium lithium-ion battery pack yields a range of 260 miles per charge (on the EPA test cycle rather than the more lenient WLTP standard used in Europe), and can be recharged at up to 150kW. It can be refilled from 10-80% in less than 35min. It can tow loads of up to 1588kg (3500lbs) and offers several drive models for surfaces including snow and deep mud, as well as a hill-descent system. Inside, it is said to offer more cargo space than the Solterra, putting it on a par with the Outback. There is a 14.0-in infotainment touchscreen (the biggest fittest in a Subaru yet) and a high-set digital instrument panel. Subaru has yet to announce pricing but it is likely to be positioned above the Solterra. Deliveries will begin next year, but Autocar understands the Trailseeker name has yet to be confirmed for the UK. As well as revealing the Trailseeker and a heavily revised Solterra, Subaru confirmed it will launch its third electric model this year. It's possible that - as the Solterra is twinned with the Toyota bZ4X – this will be a restyled version of the new Toyota C-HR+.
