STAT+: Eric Green was the first institute director forced out of NIH. He still hasn’t been told why
Eric Green said the process leading to his ouster as a NIH institute director by the Trump administration remains "shrouded in mystery"

BOSTON — Three months later, it’s still unclear why Eric Green became the first institute director at the National Institutes of Health ousted by the Trump administration, and who ordered it — even to him.
In his first public comments since being forced out after leading the National Human Genome Research Institute for nearly 16 years, the pioneering geneticist told STAT during a visit to Boston that the process leading up to his termination is “shrouded in mystery.” He said he did not think either Matt Memoli, the acting NIH director at the time, or health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made the decision.
“I do believe there were people put into the department by the White House before Kennedy arrived. I think they had their agenda for who was going to get terminated, and why and how.”
