Primark has become the latest retailer to unveil new pay rates for store colleagues.
Retail assistants across England, Scotland and Wales will see their hourly pay rise 4% from £12 to £12.48, while those based in London will see their rates increase from £12.56 to £13.06 per hour.
The pay rise is effective from 1 April and will apply to 28,000 Primark employees.
It means that Primark employees have seen their hourly rates rise by an average of 12% over the last 12 years.
Primark UK retail director Kari Rodgers said: “Our colleagues are key to supporting our customers and their local communities every day in an increasingly challenging retail environment.
“We hope this increase goes someway towards demonstrating how much we appreciate their hard work and dedication.”
Last week, M&S announced it was investing £95m in increasing pay for over 50,000 of its retail employees from 1 April.
The rate of pay for UK customer assistants will rise 5% from £12 to £12.60 per hour, and £13.85 for those inside the M25.
