M&S suspends all online orders following cyber attack

M&S has halted all online orders as it struggles to recover from the fallout of a cyber attack earlier this week.

The retail giant confirmed on Tuesday (22 April) that it was facing a “cyber incident”, which left customers across the UK unable to use contactless payments or click-and-collect services over the Bank holiday weekend.

The retailer made the decision to take some of its processes offline “to minimise disruption” and pause click-and-collect orders from its website.

In a new statement, M&S said: “As part of our proactive management of the incident, we have made the decision to pause taking orders via our UK & Ireland websites and apps and some M&S International operated websites.

“The M&S product range is available to browse online, and our stores remain open and ready to welcome and serve customers.

“We continue to manage the incident proactively and the M&S team – supported by leading experts – is working extremely hard to restore online operations and continue to serve customers well,” it added.

The retailer has responded to comments on social media, informing shoppers that it is currently unable to accept gift cards, e-gift cards and credit receipts as a payment method in store or online.

It marks the second major tech-related issue M&S has faced in the past year, with its website and app taken offline for several hours following a third-party service failure in May.
