Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri recently debuted Dior’s Spring/Summer 2025 Haute Couture Collection in Paris with a Wonderland-inspired show. Models made their way down the runway in mohawk headpieces and gladiator-esque sandals while wearing abstract looks crafted from feathers, organza, lace, raffia, and more. With this Dior couture collection, Chiuri set out to “disrupt the order of time, taking us back to a dimension that belongs neither to past nor future, between childhood and adulthood, dream and reality,” according to the collection notes. She pulled inspiration from a young Yves Saint Laurent’s Trapèze line, his very first collection for Dior that was presented in 1958.

The intention of this line was to create pieces that evoke dresses beneath where the body disappears. Chiuri “explores the idea of transformation inherent in creation; in this temporal paradox, she moves in total freedom as if the mirrors that fill the couture studio could, similar to Alice’s looking glass, allow access to another realm.” Oversized, cage skirts set the tone all designed from an array of fabrics like eyelet cottons, feather-embossed netting, lace, and tulle. These threads on the cages stretch and provide an artistic movement to every piece that enhances the light blouses sublimated by floral embroidery.

Chiuri inserted another look from the Dior archives – the Cigale silhouette, designed by Monsieur Dior for the 1953-1953 haute couture collection. This time around, the piece is re-proposed in its original moiré fabrics, adopted for a little skirt paired with a fitted tailcoat, which accentuates its contrasting proportions. Blending romanticism with a sense of fantasy, this collection proved Chiuri’s most feminine yet. Intricate details like custom lace and straw and horsehair ribbons brought each piece to life amongst corsets, culottes, blazers, and draped skirts.
