Junction 4 Pallets has purchased a longer semi-trailer (LST) from Montracon in Doncaster to keep up with increasing demand. J4 has seen ever-growing demand across 2024 and the move towards LSTs trailers reflects the changing needs of customers and industry as well as J4’s flexibility.
LSTs were initially introduced by the UK government through a wide-ranging trial that lasted 11 years. Through the research, the Department for Transport (DfT) discovered that unlike the standard 13.6-metre semi-trailer, a 15.6-metre LST could reduce journeys by 8% compared with standard size trailers. It is estimated that the use of LSTs will reduce the amount of carbon dioxide release into the atmosphere by around 70,000 tonnes.
Speaking on the development, Junction 4 Pallets Director, Micheal Kelly says: “We anticipate that this will deliver an excess of 1,000,000 pallets by 2030. This constitutes a 15% increase on a standard trailer, saving an excess of 200 truckloads per year.”
Adding to this, J4’s environmental and sustainability lead, Craig Bushby says: “I’m delighted to see an extended trailer in the fleet. The benefits include a reduced number of trips, savings on fuel, labour, and Co2 emissions per journey. It’s great to see sustainable transport alternatives such as LSTs being used more widely.”The post Junction 4 Pallets maximises efficiency first appeared on Warehouse & Logistics News.
