How Nick Chadha & Ryan Tower Are Revolutionizing The Deck Design Industry

Close friends and industry innovators Nick Chadha and Ryan Tower, co-founders of A-DIY, have transformed the deck-building landscape by drawing on their decade-long expertise at Venus et Fleur and a shared passion for solving consumer challenges.  Like many successful entrepreneurs, the idea behind A-DIY stemmed from a market gap, causing frustration and ultimately leading to a solution. Discouraged by the costly, complex, and time-consuming process of traditional deck installation, they partnered with contractor Charbel Aoun to create A-DIY—a revolutionary, patent-pending system that delivers professional-grade decks with Lego-like simplicity. Offering durable, weatherproof materials like KDAT wood and low-maintenance composite, A-DIY empowers homeowners to build their dream outdoor oasis in under an hour, without contractors or specialized tools, all while prioritizing sustainability and nationwide accessibility.

Ahead, we sit down with Chadha and Tower to understand how they were able to transform a gap into a real solution, paving the way for the industry.

HAUTE LIVING: What inspired you to transition from revolutionizing luxury florals at Venus et Fleur to tackling the challenges of deck installation with A-DIY? How did your long-standing friendship and professional collaboration influence the decision to start this venture?

NICK CHADHA & RYAN TOWER: At Venus et Fleur, we reimagined the art of floral gifting and adding our touch of elegance and innovation to it. We felt there was still so much room to offer more to a market that wasn’t meeting its potential. With A-DIY, the focus is the same. We saw an opportunity to disrupt an outdated industry by creating something that was less complicated, effortless and accessible to everyone. After years of ideating, my co-founder and I knew we wanted to create a solution for the outdated state of outdoor living.

HL: What ultimately led you to A-DIY—did you see a specific gap in the market? What problems were you trying to solve for homeowners or renters?

NC & RT: Over the last few years, home improvement has become extremely high for people. While the industry was growing, there was a real lack of accessibility for some things, including an outdoor deck. I would often see people spending so much time and money whether it was hiring contractors, or having to go out and buy a bunch of tools that would eventually be super complicated to use. Thats when we realized that we could provide a solution here for these needs. A-DIY was born to bridge that gap and allow homeowners an affordable and accessible way to upgrade their homes.

HL: The A-DIY system is described as a “Lego-like” solution for deck building. Can you walk us through the development of this patent-pending, pre-assembled panel system and the key challenges you faced in making it accessible for users with no DIY experience?

NC & RT: From the start, our goal was to eliminate the need for contractors, high costs, or complicated tools. We wanted to introduce a new way to build—one that feels like assembling a Lego but delivers the look and performance of a professional build. We engineered a patent-pending pre-assembled panel system where every component is made to fit together seamlessly where no cutting, measuring, or special tools are needed. One major challenge was ensuring that the system could be incredibly simple without compromising structural integrity. We rigorously tested different materials, joint mechanisms, and design formats until we found a solution that made professional-grade decks possible for anyone, regardless of experience.

HL: Your backgrounds in business and supply chain operations have clearly shaped A-DIY’s streamlined approach. How did you leverage your experience to address the biggest pain points of traditional decking, such as high labor costs and lengthy installations?

NC & RT: Coming from business and supply chain backgrounds, we knew that inefficiencies drive up both time and cost. With A-DIY, we reverse-engineered the entire process. Instead of sourcing dozens of separate materials and parts, we pre-assemble everything into kits that arrive ready to install. By controlling production quality and logistics in-house, we eliminated unnecessary steps, extra costs and time.

HL: A-DIY aims to become the “Zara” of outdoor living with modular add-ons like pergolas and cold plunges. Can you share more about your product roadmap and how you plan to balance innovation with affordability?

NC & RT: Our approach is extremely similar to Zara as our vision is to make outdoor living easy and accessible for all. Our roadmap includes modular add-ons like pergolas, cold plunges, outdoor kitchens, and customizable deck extensions, each designed to easily integrate with our core deck kits. For us, innovation comes first but as the brand grows, we know the offerings will expand. At the end of the day, the goal remains the same — to provide homeowners with the freedom to personalize their spaces as they wish to.

HL: Sustainability and community are core to A-DIY’s mission. How do you integrate environmentally responsible practices into your manufacturing process, and what steps are you taking to create a brand that evolves with customer needs?

NC & RT: I would say sustainability is built into our DNA. We use responsibly sourced, Grade 1 lumber that’s heat- and pressure-treated for longevity, reducing the need for frequent replacements. We also prioritize composite options that offer extended lifespans with less environmental impact. As we grow, we’re committed to expanding our eco-friendly offerings and building a community where customer feedback shapes our future innovations, ensuring we evolve alongside their lifestyles and values.

HL: With nationwide shipping and warranties, how are you ensuring consistent product quality and satisfaction—especially for first-time DIYers who might feel intimidated by the process?

NC & RT: Product is one thing, but being consistent with it is another. Every A-DIY kit is pre-engineered, pre-measured, and thoroughly tested before it leaves our facility. We also offer clear, step-by-step assembly instructions and virtual support to make the process as smooth as possible for first-time DIYers.

We also offer all our decks with a 5-year warranty and our composite boards with a 25-year warranty, giving customers confidence that they are investing in something they can trust.
