Dengue Cases in the Americas Highest Recorded

Dengue cases in the Americas have nearly tripled since 2023, the largest number of cases of the vector-borne illness since the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) began tracking them in 1980. PAHO Director Jarbas Barbosa, MD, noted in a December 10 press briefing that more than 12.6 million dengue cases were reported in 2024. Of these cases, more than 21 000 were severe, resulting in nearly 8000 deaths.
