Corney & Barrow to distribute Kracher in the UK
Corney & Barrow had added one of Austria’s most celebrated producers of world-class sweet wines to its portfolio - the wine merchant’s first exclusive Austrian agency, which it says further strengthens its commitment to bringing the world’s greatest wines to its customers. Kracher, whose wines have achieved cult status all over the world, is based on Neusiedlersee (Lake Neusiedl) in the East of Austria, where the unique microclimate fosters the development of Botrytis cinerea (noble rot). As well as representing Kracher’s estate’s renowned Trockenbeerenauslesen wines in the UK, Corney & Barrow will carry a selection of the producers dry wines made from Austria’s classic grape varieties, and have access to limited allocations of the producers highly sought-after older wines, which are produced in tiny quantities. Rebecca Palmer, head of merchant buying at Corney & Barrow said she was delighted to welcome Kracher to its global portfolio and could not wait to share them with their  customers. “With Gerhard Kracher at the helm, the estate continues to innovate while honouring the traditions that have made Kracher a global benchmark for sweet wines,” she said. “The wines are simply extraordinary.” Founded in 1959 by Alois Kracher Sr., the estate’s potential for producing world-class sweet wines was first realised by his son, Alois Jr., who propelled Kracher onto the international stage, and established its reputation for world-class sweet wines. The estate is now led by  the third-generation Gerhard Kracher, who took the reins in 2007 after his father’s death and has upheld the family legacy and maintained the estate’s uncompromising commitment to its legendary sweet wines while introducing elegant dry wines to appeal to a broader audience.
