Biglaw Firms Shying Away From Hiring Fired Government Lawyers For Fear Of Being ‘Scorned’ By Trump Administration

We have seen law firms really pull back on wanting these individuals for fear that they’re not effective in front of the Trump administration.

There is a concern that they are ineffective, practicing or appearing against the government now and against the individuals leading the Department of Justice for the Trump administration. [There’s concern that] either clients won’t hire them because they’re afraid that they will be ineffective or retaliated against for hiring these individuals who are so scorned by the Trump administration.

 Rachel Nonaka, a Washington, D.C.-based law firm recruiter at Macrae, in comments given to the National Law Journal, on the fact that hiring government lawyers who were fired may be a dangerous move. “Law firm partners are very often hired on their expertise and their connections. So if your network and connections are primarily with an out-of-power administration, of course that could have an impact,” she said. “What kind of impact? We’re all waiting with bated breath.”
