We have seen law firms really pull back on wanting these individuals for fear that they’re not effective in front of the Trump administration.
There is a concern that they are ineffective, practicing or appearing against the government now and against the individuals leading the Department of Justice for the Trump administration. [There’s concern that] either clients won’t hire them because they’re afraid that they will be ineffective or retaliated against for hiring these individuals who are so scorned by the Trump administration.
— Rachel Nonaka, a Washington, D.C.-based law firm recruiter at Macrae, in comments given to the National Law Journal, on the fact that hiring government lawyers who were fired may be a dangerous move. “Law firm partners are very often hired on their expertise and their connections. So if your network and connections are primarily with an out-of-power administration, of course that could have an impact,” she said. “What kind of impact? We’re all waiting with bated breath.”
