Dale Paterson
Managing Director,
Exporta

Dale Paterson, Managing Director at Exporta, talks to Warehouse & Logistics News.

What does your role involve on a day-to-day basis?

My role is very much about ensuring the forward strategy of the business is planned and implemented alongside the team leaders and department heads including ensuring investment in the best resources to facilitate and manage growth without a negative impact on our customers. I also have a real passion for working with the teams interacting with customers and suppliers and attending exhibitions whether on our own stand at Intralogistex or visiting international trade shows such as LogiMAT to see the new innovations in our industry.

How would you explain the Exporta Culture?

Our company values include transparency and honesty, ensuring that everyone works with a clear and shared purpose. There are no hidden agendas—our team collaborates towards a common goal: delivering the best service to our customers. By working together, we create an environment where both our customers and employees can thrive.

How does this culture assist your clients’ requirements?

With a collaborative team working towards our shared goal, we can respond to client needs efficiently and effectively. This approach fosters strong, long-term relationships and ensures that our clients receive consistent, high-quality service tailored to their requirements

Do you have direct contact with customers, and get involved developing solutions?

I make it a priority to connect with customers every day when time allows. Visiting clients’ premises to help find the right solution not only supports their needs but also keeps me engaged with the team and continuously looking for ways to improve our company service and offering.

Tell us how Exporta are growing in the UK

Having started the company with my Dad and brothers, it’s exciting to see the next generation joining the business, with my son becoming part of the team this year. We recognise that our customers are the lifeblood of the economy—operators in industry and commerce who create value in their businesses every day. That’s why we are continually improving our products and services to meet their needs and provide effective solutions to their challenges.

What makes Exporta unique in your industry?

Exporta stands out because we focus on providing tailored solutions, choosing the right product for each application rather than being limited to a fixed range. We also offer product tracking systems and recycling services, going beyond just products to deliver added value. Additionally, we’re proud to be the first carbon-neutral supplier of plastic pallets in the UK, reflecting our commitment to sustainability. Combined with our ISO certifications, these factors make us a unique and trusted partner in the industry.

What solutions do you offer customers?

We help businesses, large and small, perform more effectively, efficiently, and sustainably. More than just providing goods, we care about business performance. Our service and support are as important as the physical products we offer. In short, we provide performance beyond the box.

What sectors do these clients work in?

Our products are used in a huge range of industries but we have specialist knowledge and products in key sectors of food, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, 3PL and distribution, automotive and retail.

How can your solutions help?

We believe effective product handling makes the difference between meeting, beating or missing a target for our customers and we are determined to help eradicate waste or inefficiency through goods handling.

How future-proof and flexible are your solutions?

As a company, what we offer is performance. We move with the industry as it evolves and we constantly research the latest ideas and trends to ensure we’re giving our customers the best possible products and advice.

What new services/solutions are you offering for 2025?

We are working on a new core range of Roll Cages that will be in stock ready to meet customer requirements later in the year. Also a lot of innovation going into alternatives to single use packaging such as shrink film – watch this space!

What do you see as the biggest opportunities in the coming year for Exporta?

We have expanded and restructured our sales team to make sure that we can create and develop our relationships with new as well as existing customers alongside a website refresh at the end of 2024 to provide more information at your fingertips.

What are the biggest challenges facing Exporta and your industry?

There is a lot going on in the UK and globally that makes things challenging and can be unsettling, but I believe in the team we have both at our head office and with our wider supply network across Europe to ensure we and ultimately our customers have access to the most diverse range of products giving the choice and confidence needed in the market.

Tell us about a recent project Exporta were involved with.

We recently helped a lighting manufacturer who had a requirement to reduce the reliance on single use materials in their packaging – from using a collection of wooden pallets, bubble wrap, shrink wrap, correx and cardboard we developed a returnable packaging concept using bespoke branded sleeve packs that has been launched and is working very successfully.

Do you cover the whole of the UK?

Yes we cover the whole of the UK and also a number of other counties throughout the world. We have field sales representation throughout the UK ready for a consultation when you are and 2024 saw our very own branded truck hit the road!
