Smart Consumables Maximize Value and Reduce Waste

By strategically selecting the right filler metals and wire feeders for your specific processes, your shop not only enhances weld quality and consistency but also directly boosts productivity, reduces downtime, and decreases rework.

New Metal-cored Wire for Handheld and Automated Applications

Hobart Filler Metals (Troy, OH) introduces FabCOR Element XP™, a new metal-cored wire for both handheld and automated applications. Designed to optimize welding productivity and meet the diverse needs of fabricators and metalworkers, the metal-cored wire sets a new industry standard with the following features:

  • Reduced emissions: FabCOR Element XP significantly reduces bulk fumes and manganese emissions compared to similar metal-core products. Fabricators and metalworkers can leverage the productivity of a metal-core solution while positively impacting their environmental goals.
  • Superior weldability: The advanced formulation of FabCOR Element XP delivers excellent weldability and arc appeal, leading to high-quality welds with minimal spatter and an excellent bead appearance.

New LSW Solid Wire Designed for Easy Slag Removal
ESAB,Autrod 42 LSW,copper coated ER70S-9 solid wire
ESAB’s new OK Autrod 42 LSW is a copper coated ER70S-9 solid wire engineered to minimize slag and silica islands on the weld bead to reduce cleaning and the total cost of welding.

To improve performance in robotic MIG welding applications, ESAB Welding & Cutting Products (North Bethesda, MD) has launched OK Autrod 42 LSW, a copper coated ER70S-9 solid wire with a chemistry engineered to create minimal slag and silica islands on the weld bead. Available in diameters from 0.035” and 0.045”.

OK Autrod 42 LSW provides good wetting action so the weld puddle flows readily to create a smooth transition at the weld toe, a better bead profile and better surface appearance. Spatter generation is minimal. OK Autrod 42 LSW has a minimum tensile strength of 71 KSI and typical impact values of 93’-lbs. -22 °F.

Stick Electrodes Provide Softer Arc Characteristics, Easier Restrikes

ESAB Welding & Cutting Products’ (North Bethesda, MD) OK Goldrox 7018 is a premium low-hydrogen Stick electrode that offers good arc starts, easier restrikes, better arc stability, lower spatter and a fast-freezing slag that provides more control for welding out of position. Excellent slag detachability makes post-weld cleaning easier.

ESAB OK Goldrox 7018 is a new premium low-hydrogen stick electrode that offers improved restrikes, better arc stability, softer arc characteristic and an easier-to-control weld puddle.

Intended for the U.S. market, OK Goldrox 7018 is available in diameters of 1/8”, 3/32”, and 5/32” (14” lengths) and comes in 10-lb. plastic tubes or 50-lb. cans. Applications include power generation, structural steel, offshore, pressure vessel fabrication, petrochemical industry, food processing and other industries where the prevention of cold cracking or porosity is crucial.

OK Goldrox 7018 is classified as AWS E7018-1 H4R, indicating less than 4 ml of diffusible hydrogen per 100 g of deposited weld. Designed for moisture resistance, H4R electrodes also have less than 0.4% moisture absorption after 12 hours of exposure at 80 °F and 80% relative humidity. The -1 designation indicates Charpy V-Notch properties measured at lower temperatures. OK Goldrox provides as-welded impact values of 110’-lbs. at -50 °F and 150’-lbs. at -20 °F.
