QOTD: Does The New Ram Warranty Help The Brand?

Automakers love to extoll the virtues of long warranties, for fairly obvious reasons. And Ram has unveiled a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty for its trucks.

The cynic in me immediately goes to how Hyundai/Kia came up with a long warranty as the two brands struggled to improve their image -- and product -- after initially being perceived (often correctly) as cheap, unreliable transportation.

Ram, meanwhile, scores OK in reliability rankings, although I often hear anecdotally from Stellantis owners about frustrations with their cars' quality.

So, will this new Ram warranty help it sell trucks?

Stellantis has been working hard to get Ram back on track after playing yo-yo with the Hemi. I like the newest-gen truck well enough, but the backlash Ram faced when it appeared the Hemi might be dead must've stung. This new warranty and the return to NASCAR seems to be a part of a brand-image rehabilitation push, even though the truck itself is competitive.

Of course, when it comes to the Detroit Three full-size truck wars, a competitive product isn't enough. Brand loyalty makes conquesting difficult, and some sales are probably made around the margins. For example, by offering a generous warranty.

So, will this news help Ram move more metal?

Sound off below.
