Liora Kats’ Unexpected Journey From Child Star to NYC Actress

It’s something of a miracle when people find their true calling in life almost by accident. It has been called fate, destiny, or even divine intervention, but whatever you may call it, the way in which you ultimately find the things that come to mean the most to you is a remarkable part of the human experience. Liora Kats’ tale is remarkable in its own right.

As a child, she immersed herself in competitive Latin dancing, which earned her the title of vice-champion of the Netherlands. She also trained in Krav Maga, a discipline that honed her physical and mental resilience. Liora cultivated a love for cooking, eventually becoming a sous chef at a young age. These diverse pursuits demonstrate her drive to explore and excel in a range of disciplines, which she now channels into her acting.

Early Career

She worked a variety of jobs from a young age, including selling tickets at an amusement park, working as a hostess, and even as a sous chef. However, it was through her Latin dancing career that Liora landed her first role in a feature film at 12 years old, where she was absolutely mesmerized by the energy of a film set.

This initial brush with acting was formative and led her high school drama teacher to encourage her to audition for a Nickelodeon casting call. She got the part on Nickelodeon’s Hunter Street, and her acting career was truly set in motion.

As Liora says, “The magic of storytelling, of fully immersing yourself in a role, is something I never want to stop experiencing. Whether between ‘action’ and ‘cut’ or from the beginning to the end of a scene, that magic is what keeps me inspired.”

Garnering Experience

After finishing school in the Netherlands, Liora traveled for a while before landing in New York City. There, she enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute at the beginning of 2022 and completed a two-year conservatory program. Since then, she’s continued taking classes there to “continue to grow and do the work,” Liora says.

Liora believes that the power of the mind is infinite; “Your thoughts shape your reality.” Every challenge she has faced to become an actress has been an opportunity to grow and prove to herself and those around her that she is stronger than she ever imagined. These insights underline her resilience and commitment to personal and professional growth.

Forging Her Own Path

Through it all, Liora persevered and ultimately prevailed. Today, she lives in New York City as a talented professional actress. She just finished filming for an upcoming horror-comedy set to be released by the famous Troma Entertainment and has recently made her NYC stage debut, playing “Vanessa” in Significant Other by Joshua Harmon, directed by Ilana Stein.

Liora Kats is passionate about taking on greater, more challenging acting roles and telling stories of her own. As she concludes, ‘I want to tell meaningful stories, continue growing, and one day create my own work to share those stories with the world.’
