Whether you’ve gone to a hundred reformer classes or are a newbie to the machine, the benefits of these pilates-inspired workouts are vast. Maybe you prefer Equinox’s private classes or maybe you are motivated by [solidcore]’s group dynamic—either way, you’re making moves.
But before we talk about our favorite pieces to wear for said workouts, we first want to talk about why you should go. According to Triana Brown, Director of Talent and Product Development for [solidcore], a pilates-inspired workout “promotes muscle gains and a balanced body. [solidcore] targets the slow-twitch muscle fibers, which stimulate muscle development and enhance your total body strength…. A balanced body equals a resilient body.”
In addition to full-body balance, Brown says that, “A low-impact, high-intensity workout like [solidcore] minimizes the force placed on joints and muscles, reducing the risk of injury and making the workout accessible even for those recovering from injuries without exacerbating their condition. The high-intensity aspect of the workout is equally essential, as it drives muscles to the point of failure, maximizing strength and endurance gains.”
Now, of course, comes the fun part: picking out your clothes. Classic athleticwear brands like Alo and Lululemon make clothes designed for these specific workouts, and of-the-moment labels like SET Active and Splits59 are also entering the market with chic styles.
Here’s our breakdown of what to wear for your next reformer workout.
Grip Socks
While not required (at least in most places), you will want a pair of grip socks. Brown adds, “Grip socks are encouraged for added stability and safety.” And don’t worry: there are some super stylish pairs.
Matching Set
Look extra put together while also in prime performance attire. You can choose from a wide array of colors and silhouettes, like SET’s sports bra and shorts or Alo’s crystal clear blue duo.

If a matching set isn’t quite your thing, you can’t go wrong with Lululemon’s subtle flare pants and Splits59’s lightweight tank top.

Sweater
Sometimes the studios are chilly before class, so you will want an easy pull-over to wear. Both Year of Ours and Vitamin A make stellar options.
Slides
Easy on, easy off is key, especially in the hustle of a workout studio’s locker area. Jenni Kayne makes a luxe pair that goes beyond the workout while Nike mastered the supportive, recovery slide.
