Costco To Close All US Locations for 24 Hours in May

Costco is following the tradition of closing all stores for major holidays, and the same will be true this month.

According to Men’s Journal, the warehouse club will close all its locations on May 26, 2025, the last Monday in May. This day is traditionally honored as Memorial Day in the United States, which “honors the sacrifice and loss of those who served and died in the military,” according to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Costco has also informed consumers and staff that it intends to close on numerous additional holidays in 2025, including Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. These closures demonstrate the retailer’s commitment to giving its employees time to commemorate major holidays while also recognizing the changing retail landscape.

Costco Projected To Be the ‘Tariff Winner’

Despite this 24-hour closure, the big-box store is projected to be the “tariff winner” if things continue as they are under the Trump regime.

According to CNBC, Loop Capital believes Costco could benefit from a high tariff environment and rising inflation. The firm stated that challenging economic circumstances allow the wholesale club to improve its value proposition to its members.

With this in mind, Loop reiterated its buy recommendation while decreasing its price target to $1,045 per share from $1,150. The company’s stock has declined less than 1% in 2025, outperforming the broader market. For example, the S&P 500 has plummeted 15% this year.

Given its massive membership base and consumer loyalty, analysts frequently see the retail giant as vital for weathering market volatility, if not a recession. Although Trump’s tariffs and the escalating trade war will indeed affect the company, Laura Champine believes the store will gain market share in the long term.

“We’re assuming that margins are negatively impacted by tariffs. Costco is slow to pass on cost increases, so there is certainly risk to even our lowered estimates in the near-term,” the analyst said in April. “Over time, Costco capitulates to market pricing trends to capture its normal margin levels.”
