Since the beginning of 2025, the USA has reported a rise in the number of measles cases, with 607 confirmed infections across multiple states, as of April 3, 2025.1 Notably, 97% of these cases are among people who are unvaccinated or have unknown vaccination status.1 In Texas, 481 cases have been confirmed since late January, 2025, resulting in 56 hospitalisations and one death in a school-aged unvaccinated child without underlying medical conditions.2 The measles outbreak has led to 54 cases in neighbouring New Mexico and ten in Oklahoma, underscoring the ease with which measles can cross state borders in a large, interconnected country.
