Chipotle Rolls Out Huge ‘Summer of Extras,’ $1M in Free Burritos Up for Grabs

Chipotle’s new “Summer of Extras” promotion promises to reward loyal customers with $1 million in free burritos.
The Mexican-inspired eatery’s latest promo is all about giving back to its fans. Chipotle Rewards members across the U.S. can unlock extra perks, earn bonus points, and win free Chipotle. Plus, one lucky customer in each of the 48 states it operates in (and D.C.) will score free burritos for an entire year.
According to a company press release, fans can join in on the fun by signing up for Chipotle Rewards and opting in online. Rewards members can earn extra points and exclusive badges by completing up to four milestones per month.
With each purchase, they gain sweepstakes entries for a chance to score free burritos for a year and a limited-edition stainless steel gift card. New Chipotle Rewards members will also receive a free guacamole offer after their first order following their sign-up.
Once customers opt into Summer of Extras via their Chipotle Rewards account, they will unlock the seven-visit streak challenge. Milestones reset every month, so there are many chances to score bonus points, extra perks, and free Chipotle all summer long. However, only two qualifying entrée purchases count per day.
Rewards members who have opted into the Summer of Extras promo can earn the following milestones, which can help them win free menu items:
- Milestone One: After purchasing one entrée, customers unlock 50 bonus points, five sweepstakes entries, and an Extras badge.
- Milestone Two: Purchasing two more entrées gets fans 100 bonus points, 10 sweepstakes entries, plus an Extras badge.
- Milestone Three: Two more entrées win 200 bonus points, 15 sweepstakes entries, and an Extras badge.
- Milestone Four: By ordering two more entrées, customers get 300 bonus points, 30 sweepstakes entries, plus an Extras badge.
“We’ve seen our superfans on social media documenting their Chipotle journeys and maintaining daily or weekly ‘streaks,'” said Chief Brand Officer Chris Brandt. “For our biggest Rewards summer ever, we’re giving our loyal fans the chance to get rewarded more than ever. “
Chief Customer and Technology Officer Curt Garner added, “‘Summer of Extras’ kicks off our most rewarding summer ever through a gamified experience that rewards and recognizes our top guests with exceptional value and visibility into how their fandom and frequency ranks amongst fellow members. Visiting more this summer can enable members to earn free Chipotle faster.”
From June 1 through Aug. 31, 10,000 rewards members will be randomly selected to receive a free burrito. Customers can enter by opting into the Summer of Extras program and making a qualifying in-restaurant or digital entrée purchase, or by submitting an online entry during the weekly entry period.
Why Does Chipotle Utilize so Many Customer Promotions?
Chipotle regularly offers giveaways and promotions, often featuring free burritos and other tasty rewards, to attract customers, boost sales, and keep its rewards members engaged. Many of these offers use a fun, gamified approach to encourage repeat customer visits and build brand buzz.
The eatery has seen the profitability and benefits to its bottom line that its value-based or limited-time promotions can bring. Free burrito promotions and other giveaways can entice new customers to try the brand, particularly during limited-time events.

In 2025, the brand has thus far partnered with Roblox to launch the “Unfolded” game, where players could complete a side quest and watch a film to receive a unique code for a free regular entrée. In celebration of National Burrito Day, Chipotle also reintroduced its Burrito Vault game, offering fans a chance to win free burritos for a year. Additionally, the brand declared Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, as “Extra Sunday,” offering Chipotle Rewards members a free side of guacamole and Queso Blanco with any entrée purchase.
