Asda offers free tea to Morrisons shoppers on Mother’s Day amid café cuts

Asda is offering a free tea or coffee to visitors who shows their Morrisons More loyalty Card at the counter across its 205 cafes on Mother’s Day this Sunday (30 March).
The move comes after Morrisons announced that it would axe 52 of its cafes earlier this week, as part of the supermarket’s major operational shake-up.
Additionally, the grocery giant is scrapping all 18 of its Market Kitchens, 17 convenience stores, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters, and four pharmacies, as it enters the second year of its renewal programme.
Asda is also offering shoppers a Mother’s Day afternoon tea deal this Sunday for £4, including a scone, jam, clotted cream, and a hot drink – or a latte or cappuccino for 55p extra.
Asda vice president of commercial food Ian McEvans said: “Cafés are an important part of the shopping experience for many of our customers, and we’ve demonstrated our commitment to our cafés over the years with popular deals like winter warmer and kids eat for £1.
“With our Mother’s Day afternoon tea deal running this Sunday, we wanted to take the opportunity to offer some reassurance to those Morrisons customers who may be losing their local café by welcoming them into Asda with a free brew on us.”
The move comes as Asda pushes ahead with its own turnaround plan, having brought back Rollback and a host of Asda alumni earlier this year.
Earlier this month, the retailer slashed thousands of prices by up to 45% as it price war intensified.
