Asda: Ex-supply chain boss becomes latest exec to return

Asda’s former supply chain boss Gavin Chappell has returned to the supermarket chain after 10 years.

Chappell, who rejoins the business in April, has spent the last two years as the chief operating officer for Bensons for Beds.

He will take up the position of vice president of food and general merchandise supply, where he will be responsible for the supply chain teams.

Chappell first joined the supermarket in 2009 as vice president of supply chain for Asda.com and stepped down in 2015.

He worked at Dunelm as its group supply chain director for four years and then moved to Holland & Barrett to take up a similar role before heading to Bensons for Beds in 2022.

Chappell will report directly into David Lepley, who also returned to Asda recently to take up the newly created chief supply chain officer.

Lepley said: “We know that the key to delivering legendary service and great value is ensuring customers can get the products they want each and every time they shop at Asda.

“Gavin’s knowledge of the business and considerable experience in logistics and supply chain functions will ensure we can continue meeting the needs of hardworking families.”

Chappell is the latest in a series of former Asda executives to return to the business in recent months. This includes David Lepley, who was reappointed as chief supply chain officer, and Allan Leighton, who returned as executive chairman.
