What is the Jeep Wrangler 4xe Backcountry?

With only 5,800 units being built for North America, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe Backcountry is a flamboyant and pricey addition to a lengthy roster.

What is the Jeep Wrangler 4xe Backcountry?

The limited edition 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Backcountry starts at $66,185. Since it is based on a Sahara rather than a Rubicon, you would be right to assume that the pricing is mighty high. Much of that has to do with the amount of tech this vehicle offers and its limited run.

Jeep started with the Sahara version of the Wrangler 4xe—which already has color-matched bumpers, a higher-end tech package, four-doors, and an upgraded interior—and added a few things. It's also powered by the plug-in hybrid system, which sends a combined 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

It's all about the tech

A 2025 Sahara 4xe starts at $57,695. From there, the Wrangler Backcountry adds a few unique upgrades.

The extra technology starts with the Front TrailCam, which allows for easy navigation over obstacles, the "Adventure Guides" GPS system with built-in off-road trails, and a nine-speaker Alpine Premium Audio System. A four and seven pin tow package is also standard.

The 4xe also offers a form of V2L/bidirectional charging through the "Jeep Power Box." This box plugs into your J1772 port, giving you 12-volt outlets that can run up to 15 amps, making the Backcountry behave like a generator. That 17 kWh battery, working with the 2.0-liter turbo, can generate enough electricity to run a small campsite or worksite efficiently, or power devices, tools, and cooking aids while you're in the rough.

The exterior helps the Backcountry stand out

The exterior also gets special Mopar touches. Its black wheels are wrapped in 32-inch General Grabber A/Ts, and several decals, like a huge topographical map on the hood, drape the Jeep's panels. The Backcountry also comes standard with rock rails, a Mopar grill, and steel front and rear bumpers.

Several exterior colors are available, including Firecracker Red, Granite Crystal, Hydro Blue, Anvil, Black, Bright White, and '41. The three-piece, color-matched hardtop is included, but if you'd rather have the Jeep Sky One-Touch power top, it's available as an option.

Inside, passengers can enjoy the swanky, heated leather seats as well as unique slush mats if you happen to drag some nature into the cabin with you.

Final thoughts

Is the 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Backcountry package worth about $9,000 more than a Sahara? That's hard to say. Many Jeep fans would love to get their hands on a model of which only 5,800 units are being built. It has all the capability baked in for those who like to commute in comfort and have a great camping vehicle at the same time.

Then again, it's no Rubicon, and that may be the point. If you're banging around on hard trails and doing medium off-road obstacles, you honestly don't need a Rubicon. This Wrangler takes an already pricey 4xe platform, gives you a killer sound system, gobs of tech and a very capable off-road vehicle wrapped in a unique package. Is that enough for you?
