Nike to axe jobs at its technology arm

Nike is making job cuts in its technology division, according to a company representative.

In an email, the representative explained that the sportswear giant was set to move some of the work in its tech arm to third-party vendors. The representative told Reuters that the changes were unveiled last week.

However, the representative did not say how many staff members would be made redundant. It also remains unclear how many employees work in the company’s technology division.

The move, which was initially reported by Bloomberg News, comes after Nike reported a 9% drop in third-quarter sales for fiscal 2025 in March, with sales totaling £9.1bn ($11.3bn), down from  £10.1bn ($12.4bn) last year. On a currency-neutral basis, the drop was slightly lower at 7%.

The results marked a continuation of the sportswear giant’s struggles, as it faced slow consumer demand and declines across key markets.

In January, Nike also reported that it was planning a restructuring of its headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany, putting hundreds of jobs at risk.

Although it did not provide specific figures, sources told Reuters that up to 500 jobs could be affected by the changes, which came as part of efforts to simplify its structure.
