Turkish Skincare Products Pulled from Indian Shelves Amid Nationalist Boycott

THE WHAT? Indian distributors and retailers have begun boycotting Turkish skincare and personal care products in response to Turkey’s political stance on Kashmir.

THE DETAILS Turkish skincare and personal care products are the latest casualties of a growing nationalist boycott in India, following Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s support for Pakistan during recent border clashes. Indian distributors and retailers are removing Turkish-origin beauty items from stores and online platforms.

THE WHY?  The All India Consumer Products Distributors Federation (AICPDF), which supplies 13 million grocery outlets across India, has announced an indefinite boycott of all Turkish-origin goods. The move affects a range of consumer categories, notably skincare, alongside snacks and confectionery.

While the Indian government has not issued an official trade directive, retailers are acting on what they describe as “national sentiment.”

Turkish personal care products — which had gained modest traction in India’s price-sensitive mass market — are now being delisted. Although exact import values for beauty items were not disclosed, the AICPDF estimates the broader food and FMCG ban will impact products worth approximately US$234 million,
