Côte launches happy hour Champagne menu
Brasserie chain Côte has launched its weekday Apéro Hour menu, offering customers discounted wines by-the-glass. The new menu, available from Mondays to Fridays between 5pm and 7pm, includes a number of wines, the cheapest of which (Anciens Temps Blanc, Anciens Temps Rosé and Anciens Temps Rouge, all from the South of France and designated as Vins de France) cost £5 for a 175ml pour. As for the fizz, the restaurant, which has more than 70 locations across the UK (though concentrated mainly in the south east of England), will be pouring NV Veuve Ambal Crémant de Bourgogne for £5.50 for a 125ml glass, Limouzy Crémant Rosé, also for £5.50, and JM. Gobillard & Fils Brut Tradition NV Champagne for £7.50. Meanwhile, a 125ml glass of Lanson Le Black Création ordered from the menu will set the guest back £12. According to Côte's own website, outside of the Apéro Hour, a 750ml bottle of the Veuve Ambal would normally cost £30.95, and it is £43.95 for a bottle of JM. Gobillard & Fils. This means that the by-the-glass prices for these two sparkling wines on the Apéro Hour menu are only proportionally slightly higher compared to buying by-the-bottle (working on the basis of a bottle containing six 125ml servings). "It’s a chance to bring a little more pleasure to the start of the evening, whether you’re heading out, catching up with friends or just treating yourself," commented a spokesperson for the restaurant, as quoted in Retail Times. "There’s something very French about that pause between work and dinner, and we’ve created a menu that makes it feel just as special whether you’re in Sloane Square or Solihull. The chance to enjoy a glass of Champagne for £7.50 is a real moment, it’s indulgent but still accessible, and that’s what Côte is all about." This initiative from Côte could be a smart way to increase footfall during the week – the key reason behind the majority of happy hour offers. Making wine consumption more affordable on quieter days is a practice also used by steakhouse chain Hawksmoor, which has a long-running £5 corkage deal on Mondays.
