Boston is the Goldilocks of American cities. It’s not too big, but it’s not too small. You don’t need a car to get around, but you definitely can have one. It’s got a lot of character, but not an overwhelming amount. It’s a city that’s full of local pride, and you feel it the second you land at Logan Airport. Whether you’re going for your first time or your fiftieth, the city never gets old. Yet while there are endless luxury hotels and over-the-top penthouse suites, here’s how you do Boston the fool-proof way: stay at The Newbury.
The Newbury is a Boston landmark. Originally opened as one of the first Ritz-Carlton hotels in the United States in 1927, three-world renowned designers have since transformed the property into the 286-room hotel it stands as today. One of its main draws is truly its location. It’s situated at the beginning of Newbury Street and directly across from the sprawling Boston Commons—an intersection of shopping and serene surroundings.
If shopping is what you’re after, the property even has its own Tiffany & Co. and Zegna boutiques on site. Step outside, and you will find yourself with a Chanel, Cartier, and Van Cleef store at your doorstep. The boutiques up and down Newbury are endless, some favorites being Milk Money, CNCPTS (more on that to come), Y2 House, and of course your classic Anine Bing, Frame, Alice + Olivia, Veronica Beard, and more.
If you’re in town for the Boston Marathon or sporting events, the location is also key. Walk one block and you’ll be on Boylston Street at the finish line. You can also go across the street to the CNCPTS store to get your bib number embroidered on a jacket. And don’t even get us started on the 20-minute walk to Fenway Park to see the Red Sox or the 10 minute drive to TD Garden to catch the Celtics or Bruins game.
But the hotel is more than just its location. The rooms are top-of-the-line, with plush beds, sprawling suites (some even with a fireplace!), and Byrdeo products in the bathroom. The lobby as well is glamorous, as is the stately gym. There’s also a cozy private library lounge with reserved seating for hotel guests, a fireplace, and curated library. For food and drinks, The Street Bar gives a 1920’s vibe, offering classic cocktails and New England-inspired dishes courtesy of Major Food Group (the team behind Carbone and Sadelle’s). You can also venture upstairs to the 4,000-square-foot glass rooftop restaurant, Contessa, showcasing iconic Italian dishes.
To say the least, this hotel has it all. Even if you’re not planning on being in Boston anytime soon, this might be your sign to change that.
