Authentic Tuscan Heritage
The label’s name derives from the Italian word “doga,” which translates to “stave,” the narrow strips of wood used to form oak casks. Dogajolo wines are produced with fruit from vines grown at Carpineto’s Vino Nobile-based estate, which is located in the heart of Tuscany’s Montepulciano appellation. The brand was founded three decades ago as a response to what Carpineto realized was an international desire for budget-friendly Italian bottles that could be enjoyed every day of the week.
The Dogajolo project first commenced with the Rosso cuvée, which industry professionals at the time affectionately referred to as the brand’s “Baby Super Tuscan.” Fast forward 30 years later, and the Dogajolo lineup comprises four versatile cuvées: Rosso, Bianco, Rosato and Dogajolo Riserva. (Dogajolo Riserva is currently making its market debut with the 2021 vintage.) All operations at Dogajolo are spearheaded by Caterina Sacchet, a second-generation winemaker who took over operations upon her father’s passing.
Sustainability Initiatives
Building on their respect for regional tradition, Dogajolo also places an equally fervent emphasis on environmentally-friendly practices in both the vineyard and the cellar. Beyond sustainable farming, the Montepulciano-based winery where the cuvées are crafted is completely carbon positive, implementing the use of both solar panels and an on-site aquifer.
In the vineyards, biodiversity is encouraged, with ample woods, trees and olive groves cultivated amongst the vines. As a result, these plant-heavy vineyards absorb over 25% more C02 than they emit, making the sites a multifaceted asset to the Carpineto estate.
Dogajolo Wines: Accessible, Food Friendly, and Crowd Pleasing
Above all, Dogajolo seeks to produce wines that are sustainable, food-friendly and delightful to drink every day of the week. A combination of native and international grapes are used, and each variety is vinified separately in stainless-steel tanks prior to blending and bottling. The current Dogajolo releases include:
Rosso 2022: This blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon is aged in a combination of used oak barrels and cement. Medium-bodied and approachable, it delivers notes of cherry, vanilla and sweet spice. Pair it with weeknight dinner favorites, including pizza, cheeseburgers and more.
Bianco 2023: This blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Grechetto is vinified entirely in steel and bottled immediately. With a zesty and clean profile anchored by flavors of citrus, pear and a touch of melon, this bottling pairs with a variety of casual salads, cheese boards or slightly spicy takeout favorites.
Rosato 2024: A 100% Sangiovese vinified in steel tanks and bottled in its youth, this offering is bright and refreshing with notes of sour cherry and crisp red apple followed by a floral-tinged finish. Pair it with charcuterie, sushi or Taco Tuesday night.
Oro Riserva 2021: This is the inaugural, longer-aged release of the flagship “Baby Super Tuscan” Rosso. Pair it with hearty steaks, grilled meats and a variety of roasted vegetable dishes.
