Why ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin chose beer over a deal with Prime
Former professional wrestler Steve Austin declined to work with Logan Paul drinks brand Prime in favour of beer. db finds out why. Speaking in a recent episode of an Impaulsive podcast, Paul revealed that Austin declined the offer of US$1 million to appear in a Prime bottle mascot costume. To follow the claim, Austin then addressed the issue publicly on The Ariel Helwani Show, admitting that he had thought that the matter had been a private discussion. Austin stated: “If he said that, I’m not going to call him a liar. I just thought it was personal business.” However, not closing the matter, Austin went on to confirm to local press that the deal had been tabled and then elaborated on his reasons why he had chosen not to endorse Prime. The energy drink variant of Prime was the subject of an FDA investigation in 2023 after safety concerns were raised about its contents. The brand, which was founded by Logan Paul and KSI, exploded onto the global drinks scene before quickly garnered a following via YouTube and according to sources, contains 200mg of caffeine per can – equal to the caffeine content of about two cans of Red Bull or six cans of Coke. Added to this, the brand also was the subject of controversy last year when it faced a federal lawsuit from the US Olympic Committee after it used trademarked phrases in its online marketing, which included the terms: “Olympic”,” “Olympian,” “Team USA” and “Going for gold”. Speaking about his reasons for declining the offer from Prime, Austin confirmed: “Since it’s out there — yeah, I turned it down.” Austin then explained: “I’m in the beer business. I don’t know anything about his product, its ingredients, whether it’s good or bad. It just wasn’t my thing.” Back in 2015, Austin partnered with El Segundo Brewing and launched Broken Skull IPA, then in 2022 he collaborated with the brewery to release Broken Skull American Lager. Speaking about Logan Paul’s Prime brand, Austin admitted to local media sources that the brand had done well and said of Paul: “He’s doing great, he’s hustling, and I respect that.” Yet Austin also reiterated how the brand was not for him: “It’s not my gimmick” he implored and added: “It just wasn’t the right fit for Steve Austin.” Austin recently surprised an organic Napa producer when he swung by for a tasting and shared a photo with his 6.9 million Instagram followers of him at Failla Winery.
