Trump Administration Moves to Roll Back Environmental Regulations

The Environmental Protection Agency is rolling back all sorts of regulations aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change, including regulations aimed at the automotive industry.

You'll remember that, last year, the Biden administration put into place strict greenhouse-gas standards that could've potentially forced two-thirds of cars and light-duty trucks to be EV by 2032. The Trump administration has incorrectly called this an EV "mandate" even though automakers were free to find other technologies to use to meet the standards.

Now the Trump Administration has said it will reconsider the rules, though exact details appear sparse so far.

From Lee Zeldin, the head of the EPA:

“The American auto industry has been hamstrung by the crushing regulatory regime of the last administration. As we reconsider nearly $1 trillion of regulatory costs, we will abide by the rule of law to protect consumer choice and the environment.”

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has already begun reviewing mile-per-gallon standards put in place by the Biden Administration.

We'll update you if and when we have more clarity on specific rule changes.
