Multimodal, now in its 18th year, is the UK’s leading supply chain and logistics event. We expertly connect shippers, retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers, importers, and exporters with the diverse range of suppliers who support their complex logistics needs, fostering collaboration and driving industry innovation. We also work closely with the industry’s leading trade associations including, UKWA, Logistics UK, CIOE&IT, RFG, CILT, RHA and BIFA to ensure it stays topical.
Robert Jervis, Event Director at Multimodal speaks to Warehouse & Logistics News.
What are your best-known products/solutions/services?
In our market, our flagship offering is the Multimodal Exhibition, the UK’s unrivalled platform bringing together the entire supply chain and logistics community under one roof.
Which industry sectors are your customers in and which ones are growing fastest?
Our visitors represent a vast array of sectors including manufacturing, retail, agribusiness, chemical, automotive, electronics, FMCG, food & drink, fashion, pharmaceuticals, construction, aerospace, energy, real estate, recycling, paper/print, perishables, and, crucially, the 3PLs and logistics service providers who serve them. We are seeing significant growth in attendance from the e-commerce and direct-to-consumer sectors, as well as businesses focused on sustainable logistics solutions.
What are your most recent products and innovations?
We have introduced the AI Clinic, this new feature will allow visitors to drop in and get expert advice on how AI can address their specific logistics challenges and improve their supply chain operations. And also Night Club, an initiative designed to reduce health risks for night workers and support shift workers in improving sleep, health, and performance.
What are the major trends and developments affecting your category and your customers, and how are you responding?
Sustainability is undoubtedly a major trend, with increasing pressure on businesses to adopt greener practices. We are responding by dedicating significant focus within the exhibition and conference programme to showcasing eco-friendly logistics solutions and sustainable supply chain initiatives.
Can you tell us about any recent customer contracts and how you helped the customer meet their challenges?
We recently supported a large European-based contract logistics company looking to establish a stronger presence in the UK market. They recognised Multimodal’s extensive reach into key grocery and retail sectors and used our platform to connect with potential clients and build brand awareness within their target audience.
How does business in 2025 compare to previous years? What’s your strategy for succeeding in the current climate?
While 2024 saw record-breaking success, we anticipate 2025 will present a more cautious economic climate due to factors like tax rises and energy costs impacting consumer spending. Our strategy is to deliver value to our customers through high-quality content, meaningful networking, and showcasing practical solutions.
What’s the latest news from your company?
We are thrilled to announce the Multimodal Awards will be hosted by Martin Bayfield, a hugely entertaining after dinner speaker, and a regular contributor to sports rugby, who used his 6’10” height to full advantage as one of England’s most potent forwards. Since retiring, his film fame has been as Robbie Coltrane’s body double as the giant Hagrid.
Can you tell us about any areas where you’re currently making technical advances e.g., safety, sustainability, environment?
As mentioned earlier, sustainability is a key area of focus for Multimodal 2025, both in terms of the content we provide and our own operational practices.
Are you investing in staff training and skills development?
Yes, absolutely. We have continuous training programmes across all departments to ensure our staff have the skills and knowledge to deliver world-class events like Multimodal.
Are you taking part in any major trade shows? Can you tell us what you’ll be exhibiting there?
Our primary focus right now is the successful delivery of Multimodal 2025. However, Clarion Events has a presence at various industry events throughout the year to stay connected with the broader events landscape and share best practices.
