STAT+: Cassidy set to ask RFK Jr. to explain his health department overhaul

WASHINGTON — The Republican leader of the Senate’s health panel plans to ask Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to explain the sweeping changes across the federal health agencies he oversees, in a long-awaited hearing scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) will ask Kennedy to address worries that the overhaul across the Department of Health and Human Services is impeding its critical duties, according to excerpts of his opening remarks reviewed by STAT.

“Much of the conversation around HHS’ agenda has been set by anonymous sources in the media and individuals with a bias against the president,” he says in the prepared remarks. “Americans need direct reassurance from the administration, from you Mr. Secretary, that its reforms will make their lives easier, not harder.”
