Report: The Gas-Powered Porsche Macan Is Dead After the Current Generation
The Porsche Macan EV is finally out, but the automaker has continued selling the gas model alongside its newest counterpart. Rumors initially pointed to that situation continuing, at least for the foreseeable future, but Porsche recently put the speculation to bed by confirming that the gas model would be discontinued once the current generation has run its course.

Porsche was reportedly considering a next-gen gas Macan due to extreme volatility in EV demand and sales, with an executing telling the media that, “The reception to the new Macan (electric) has been positive, but we are yet to see its long-term performance, given uncertain market conditions.” That said, a hybrid Macan or similar crossover could still be in the cards.
Porsche originally announced that it wanted EVs to account for 80 percent of its sales, but has since walked back a bit, saying that it would continue offering internal combustion-powered vehicles deep into the next decade. The automaker’s EV sales accounted for 27 percent of its sales in the last financial year, and for the 2025 fiscal season, it’s aiming for between 33 and 35 percent.

European buyers have already lost access to gas-powered Macan models, and the shift is expected to hit North American buyers within the next year. It’s an interesting move for Porsche with one of its most important volume-selling models at a time when continued EV sales growth is anything but a given.
