Law Revue Video Contest 2025: The Finalists!
Who will follow the winners of years past into the annals of Law Revue history? It's up to you, our readers! The post Law Revue Video Contest 2025: The Finalists! appeared first on Above the Law.

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to feast your eyes upon the best of the best in the 2025 law revue video contest. This year, the competition was superb — and for the sixteenth edition of this contest, we decided to narrow down the competition to the top five videos.
Not only were these law students able to carry a tune (for the most part), but they also had excellent comedic timing, and provided us with professional-grade production values. Our finalists’ videos were an absolute joy with some recent and 90s/early aughts pop and rap earworms, providing an excellent soundtrack for this year’s law revue stylings.
This year, your reviewers will be Staci Zaretsky, Joe Patrice, Kathryn Rubino, and Chris Williams. We issue only advisory opinions; you hold all the power.
Who will follow the winners of years past into the annals of Law Revue history? It’s up to you, our readers! Do the right thing: vote early, and vote for the best.
Before we get to the finalists, we have an incredible honorable mention that we need to celebrate.
GW – LAWZ BOP II
STACI: Once again, GW puts together a wonderful song package, this time tied up with the bow of a brilliant “Stacy’s Mom” parody. I obviously love it. I demand Lawz Bop III in 2026!
JOE: A perennial problem for Law Revue entrants is keeping the parody fun — or just not soul-crushingly cringe — though the whole AABA structure. This is a problem that GW circumvents with the anthology conceit allowing them to get in and get out of their songs before the joke loses momentum. That’s great strategy.
KATHRYN: A new tradition worthy of the Kidz Bop mantle — catchy tunes repurposed just enough to hit hard with their target audience.
CHRIS: Very good job. Refreshing that all of the songs aren’t from 20 or so years ago. Incepto Ne Desistam!
Now, onto the finalists! These videos are listed in alphabetical order by school. Voting will close on FRIDAY, MAY 9, at 10 AM (Eastern time).
CHICAGO — WACK ASS PRECEDENT
STACI: Live performances are usually the kiss of death for our law revue contest but OH MY GOD, I absolutely loved this one. Perhaps one of the best lyrics here of the entire competition is featured here: “Yo Clarence! Park that big ol’ yacht right in Crow’s little garage.” Fantastic job!
JOE: Echoing Staci, I dreaded hitting play on a live performance, and it’s a testament to the effort here that they pull this one off. Frankly, it almost HAD to be a live performance because they’re thriving off the crowd energy here.
KATHRYN: If you can’t laugh at the blatant corruption and WACK ASS PRECEDENT of the Supreme Court what can you do?
CHRIS: The captions pulled so much weight. That said, respect to the choreography!
FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL – WANNA PLEAD
STACI: I never thought that Civ Pro could spice up my life quite like this, but FIU did it. This was really cute — not to mention informative — and that’s what we love to see!
JOE: Do we get CLE credit for this? There’s a lot of substantive legal instruction getting dropped here.
KATHRYN: 90s nostalgia on lockdown!
CHRIS: Well done. If I had this during 1L, I may have ended further up the curve. The Civ Pro spiced names at the end were a great touch!
GW – PALSGRAFHEIMER
STACI: You can always count on GW to create true works of art. This is a masterpiece, and I hope that everyone appreciates it as much as the ATL editors did!
JOE: It takes supreme confidence to roll up on this competition without a musical number. It’s why so often I find the non-musicals to be so fantastic. They are crafted from an arrogance reserved for geniuses and scorned by the unrelenting agents of mediocrity.
KATHRYN: Okay, this is great. 10/10 no notes.
CHRIS: Alright. Pack it up, everybody. This is the one.
NYU — RULE 12(b)
STACI: Clever lyrics and decent singing. I liked this one a lot — and we always appreciate an Above the Law shout-out!
JOE: Coming full circle to my earlier remarks about the difficulty involved in sustaining a gag through a whole song, NYU locked into one song — and a slow one at that — and still managed to sustain the momentum.
KATHRYN: Smart parody.
CHRIS: This video’s vibe inspired a calm terror I haven’t felt since watching Jordan Peele’s Get Out (derogatory).
UVA — HOT ONES
STACI: This poor dean! Forced to eat the spiciest wings in order to avoid answering a controversial question. My heart certainly goes out to her.
JOE: Stunt casting from faculty is a hallowed Law Revue tradition and UVA had a great idea to work it in. I’m not sure these were the right questions to maximize the potential, but she ate Da Bomb and did not break. They make whole standalone videos just showing Hot Ones guests wish for death after eating that abomination.
KATHRYN: Hot Ones, law school style! I am a literal sucker for the First We Feast show and I am beyond impressed they went with Da Bomb, by far the most infamous sauce featured on the show.
CHRIS: I can forgive this not being musically themed, but we were pretty clear on the “absolutely freakin’ HILARIOUS” requirement if your submission took up the whole 5 minutes. Future lawyers have to do a better job of following the local rules.
It’s time to vote, everyone. Polls close on FRIDAY, MAY 9, at 10 AM (Eastern time). Get out the vote among your friends and family. Congrats!
