Inside Royal Caribbean’s New $600 Million Private Mexican Resort

Royal Caribbean has launched what it is calling its “Perfect Day Mexico,” and it has bet the literal house and farm on its success.

According to a company press release, Perfect Day Mexico is “set to break records” due to its hefty $600 million investment price tag.

“We have spent the last 50 years shattering perceptions around cruising to transform into a global vacation brand for all generations. Now, we’re bringing our demonstrated history of unparalleled service and revolutionary innovation – everything our vacationers know and love – into our collection of destinations that offer more locally inspired perfect days and beachfront getaways,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean, in a statement accompanying the press release. “Perfect Day Mexico is bigger and bolder than anything we have done to date. This destination will be the ultimate vacation for families, and we cannot wait to welcome adventurers from around the world to Mexico for an experience only Royal Caribbean can provide.”

Twelve regionally inspired dining options, ranging from sit-down restaurants to grab-and-go eateries, keep the excitement and chill going all day, with nearly all meal outlets complimentary to attendees. There are also 24 bars, including six swim-up bars. Mariachi performances, art installations, and local artists for souvenir shopping all contribute to the vibrant Mexican culture.

Perfect Day Mexico will begin operations in the fall of 2027, with Western Caribbean itineraries departing from Galveston, New Orleans, and all Florida homeports. Itineraries incorporating Perfect Day Mexico will be available for booking this fall.

The premier attraction, of course, is the Loco Waterpark. Thrill-seekers may conquer over 30 adrenaline-pumping waterslides across five slide towers, including the tallest waterslide tower — and waterslides — in North and South America. Jaguar’s Peak, which stands over 170 feet tall, has two battling slides that take riders through more than two minutes of pure exhilaration and the world’s longest coaster waterslide.

Vacationers can reach new heights on the tower’s 10 slides, including the highest family raft slide, which can accommodate four to six riders simultaneously. The waterpark has additional thrills, including hydrolaunch slides that propel riders into the air and the world’s first sombrero slide, which is designed after Mexico’s renowned sombrero. Adventure pools, a wave pool, and kid-friendly slides guarantee something for everyone.

Take the Royal Caribbean Star of the Seas To Get There

Royal Caribbean is just a few months away from introducing its second Icon Class ship, the Star of the Seas, which will make its first voyage from Port Canaveral, Florida, in August 2025. Families, couples, and groups can enjoy new and familiar entertainment, dining, and nightlife options on the second ship of the Icon Class.

During her seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean voyages, Star of the Seas will call at Perfect Day in CocoCay. Additionally, itineraries will include the brand-new Royal Beach Club on Paradise Island beginning in December 2025.

The Icon of the Seas, the other ship in the Royal Caribbean Icon Class, first hit the water in January 2024, much to the dismay of environmental activists.

The ship features eight unique “neighborhoods,” six waterslides, seven swimming pools, and 20 decks. With a capacity of 7,600 people, it is nearly five times the size of the Titanic. The ship weighs 250,800 metric tons and is about 1,200 feet long from bow to stern, making it the world’s largest ship on the ocean, surpassing Carnival’s forthcoming Festivale.
