Elon Musk Says He Won't Leave Tesla In Next Five Years "Unless I Die"

There has been a lot of talk about Tesla CEO Elon Musk stepping down or being fired after his political antics turned many away from the brand, but he has no plans of leaving anytie soon. Musk recently told attendees at the Qatar Economic Forum that he will remain Tesla’s CEO for at least another five years.

Musk’s statement came in response to a Bloomberg reporter’s question about his future at the company. After a simple “yes” answer, he went on to say that he’d remain Tesla’s CEO for at least the next five years, “Unless I die. Let me see if I’m dead.”

The CEO believes that his future at the company is tied more to his control over its operations rather than money. “It’s not a oney thing. It’s a reasonable control thing over the future of the company, especially for building millions, potentially billions of humanoid robots. I can’t be sitting there, and one day I get tossed out for political reasons by activists. That would be unacceptable. That’s all that matters.”

Robot fantasies aside, Musk is saying that his future at Tesla depends on him being able to basically do what he wants. That would include insulation from shareholders’ votes and regulators, and it would mean leaving Musk in place regardless of the automaker’s performance.
