[Comment] Accelerating rabies elimination in Africa by 2030

Rabies, a preventable yet fatal disease, continues to claim 59 000 lives annually, with Africa shouldering over 60% of this toll.1 Weak surveillance systems mean these numbers are probably underestimates, masking the true scale of the problem and perpetuating health inequities across the continent. World Rabies Day 2024, with the theme Breaking Rabies Boundaries, focuses attention on the actions needed to overcome persistent challenges and make strides towards rabies elimination.
