British Council's action research programme drives global education innovation

Credits: British Council The British Council is advancing education worldwide through its Action Research programme, which equips educators with funding, mentoring, and resources to apply research directly in classrooms. The initiative promotes collaboration among teachers, schools, and communities, with outcomes shared at local and international forums. Twelve educators from nine countries—including Pakistan, Egypt, Colombia, and Zimbabwe—recently completed projects focused on leadership, professional development, and technology in education. Findings showed that digital tools improved students' problem-solving and critical thinking, and that collaborative teacher development led to better classroom outcomes. In Pakistan, one project empowered female students through leadership and academic engagement. The results are compiled in Action Research for Schools: Global Stories of School Improvement, offering practical insights for schools worldwide. A second round of the programme is now underway, with thirteen new researchers participating.
